The Simple Way to Declutter

When it’s time to declutter each day’s space, keep it simple: set a timer for 10–15 minutes, grab a bag or box, and start by removing anything you know you don’t use, need, or love.

Don’t overthink it—just focus on making small decisions quickly. Look for duplicates, broken items, or things that haven’t been used in a year.

You’re not organizing right now—you’re letting go. Once your timer goes off or you’ve finished that one area, stop.

That’s it. Done for the day, and one step closer to a clearer, calmer home.

June Declutter Week One:

Week One is all about starting small in the heart of the home—your kitchen and a few easy-access spots.

Begin with something simple, like the junk drawer. Just one! Then move through quick wins like tossing expired food from the fridge, letting go of coffee mugs you never reach for, and checking your spices and condiments for anything past their prime. Unused kitchen gadgets?

If they haven’t seen the light of day in a year, it’s probably time to donate them. Finish the week by clearing out expired medications and swapping out old, stained dish towels.

These are small steps, but they’ll make a noticeable difference and build momentum for the rest of the month.

Day 1 – Junk drawer (just one!)
Day 2 – Expired food in fridge
Day 3 – Old or unused coffee mugs
Day 4 – Outdated spices or condiments
Day 5 – Unused kitchen gadgets
Day 6 – Expired medications or vitamins
Day 7 – Torn or unused dish towels

June Declutter Week Two:

This week, the focus shifts to your wardrobe, specifically the forgotten and worn-out items that are taking up space.

Start by letting go of the shoes you no longer wear and those lonely socks missing their match. Then move on to those old T-shirts you sleep in but don’t actually enjoy. If it’s not comfortable or doesn’t make you feel good, it’s time to part ways.

Midweek, take a few minutes to sort through jewelry, scarves, belts, or purses you never reach for.

Round it out by saying goodbye to worn-out underwear or bras and those coats or jackets that haven’t left the hanger in years.

Clearing space in your closet feels good and makes getting dressed a whole lot easier.

Day 8 – Shoes you no longer wear
Day 9 – Socks without a match
Day 10 – Old T-shirts you sleep in but don’t love
Day 11 – Jewelry you never wear
Day 12 – Scarves, belts, or purses you don’t use
Day 13 – Worn-out underwear or bras
Day 14 – Coats or jackets you haven’t worn in 2+ years

June Declutter Week Three:

Week Three is all about tackling paper clutter and the little things that pile up over time.

Start with a quick sweep of old magazines or catalogs. If you haven’t looked at them in months, you probably won’t.

Next, clear out books you don’t plan to read again and pare down your stash of notebooks or stationery to just what you truly use. Midweek, test your pens and markers and toss the ones that don’t work.

Then, deal with that stack of mail—sort, shred, and recycle what you don’t need. Finish the week by letting go of outdated receipts, old paperwork, and random tech cords or manuals collecting dust. This kind of decluttering brings a surprising sense of mental clarity.

Day 15 – Old magazines or catalogs
Day 16 – Books you don’t plan to read again
Day 17 – Excess notebooks or stationery
Day 18 – Pens and markers that don’t work
Day 19 – Paper clutter from your mail pile
Day 20 – Old receipts or outdated paperwork
Day 21 – Manuals or tech cords you no longer need

June Declutter Week Four:

In Week Four, it’s time to clear out the visual clutter, the kind that sits on shelves, fills boxes, or hides in storage.

Start with unused candles or decor you’ve outgrown, and picture frames that aren’t being displayed. Then move on to vases or decorative pieces that no longer suit your style, and any seasonal items you didn’t even pull out last year.

Midweek is perfect for sorting through DVDs, CDs, or even VHS tapes. If you don’t use them, it’s okay to let them go.

Next, take a moment with old greeting cards, keeping only the ones with truly meaningful messages. Then it’s craft supplies, if you haven’t used them in ages, you probably won’t.

As the month winds down, choose one sentimental item that no longer serves you and let it go with gratitude. Finally, clear and reset just one surface, your dresser, table, or counter, to end the month with a fresh, clear space.

Day 22 – Unused candles or decor
Day 23 – Picture frames you’re not displaying
Day 24 – Vases or decorative items you no longer love
Day 25 – Seasonal decor that doesn’t get used
Day 26 – DVDs, CDs, or VHS tapes you no longer use
Day 27 – Old greeting cards (keep only the truly meaningful)
Day 28 – Craft supplies you’ll never use

Day 29 – One sentimental item that no longer serves you
Day 30 – One surface (table, dresser, counter) to clear and reset
