Ultimate February Declutter Checklist

February is the perfect month to continue simplifying your home. The holidays are long behind us, January’s fresh-start motivation is fading, and the slower pace of winter makes it easier to focus on the areas we often overlook, such as photos, sentimental items, forgotten corners, and anything we skipped during the new-year rush.
Ultimate February Declutter Checklist: 4 Weeks to a Calmer Home
This month, we’re decluttering 28 things, one for each day of February. To keep things manageable, I’ve broken everything into four weekly mini challenges. By the end of the month, you’ll have cleared out emotional clutter, unused items, and those “I’ll get to it later” spaces that often weigh down your home.

Week 1: Photos + Sentimental Items
Start February gently by decluttering your most personal categories. These items often take time and emotion to sort through, so don’t rush.
Declutter these items:
-
Blurry photos
-
Duplicate prints
-
Screenshots you no longer need
-
Old holiday cards
-
Sentimental items you kept out of guilt
-
Childhood keepsakes that no longer hold meaning
-
Souvenirs you don’t actually display
Give yourself permission to keep only what truly matters. Curate your favorites, store them neatly, and let go of the rest.
Sentimental spaces feel instantly lighter when you remove the pieces that no longer tell your story.

Week 2: Things You Didn’t Use in January
Next, revisit your January habits. If something sat untouched for an entire month, chances are it doesn’t serve your daily life.
Declutter these items:
-
Kitchen tools you didn’t use
-
Clothing you didn’t wear once
-
Beauty products you forgot you owned
-
Workout gear you haven’t touched
-
Office supplies you don’t need
-
Pantry items you ignored
-
Books you meant to read but didn’t start
This isn’t about perfection; it’s about noticing what truly fits into your lifestyle. Anything that didn’t earn its keep in January probably won’t earn it in March either.

Week 3: Seasonal Decor + Plants
This week focuses on decor and greenery categories that slowly accumulate but are easy to refresh.
Declutter these items:
-
Seasonal décor you never put out
-
Broken or faded décor pieces
-
Candles you don’t love the scent of
-
Dead plants
-
Planters or pots you don’t use
-
Plant care items you don’t need
-
Seasonal wreaths you no longer like
Clearing unused decor and lifeless plants makes your home feel instantly cleaner and more open.
This is a quick win that brings noticeable change.

Week 4: Living Room, Den + Storage Spaces
Finish February strong by tackling the common areas and hidden spaces that collect random items throughout the year.
Declutter these items:
-
Old magazines
-
DVDs or games no one watches or plays
-
Extra throw pillows
-
Remote controls for devices you no longer own
-
Random cords or chargers
-
Items stored in the attic that you forgot about
-
Anything in the basement that’s been sitting untouched for years
These spaces often hold “just in case” items, so be honest about what you actually want in your home going forward. Clearing them out makes your everyday living areas feel calm and refreshed.
