Living a Simpler Life-11 Things You Can Do Right Now to Make Life Easier

Being a minimalist doesn’t necessarily mean our lives are perfect and easy. We’re definitely living a simpler life but can we make our life even better than it already is? Of course! I want to show you how to make life easier in 11 steps.

What exactly is a simpler lifestyle?

Living a simpler life means a lot of different things to different people. A simpler lifestyle for some may mean fewer possessions while for others it may mean avoiding drama and toxic negative people or situations.

A simpler lifestyle means exactly that-living life simpler in order to be happy because the bottom line really is, we all just want to live a happy life with little to no stress.

Joshua Becker from becomingminimalist.com has this great quote that has such a powerful meaning:

“Simplicity slows down life and frees us from this modern hysteria to live faster. It finds freedom to disengage.”

I’m going to show you how to do that in 11 simple ways!

Living a Simpler Life in 11 Ways

Making life simpler is easier than you think. It’s all in the little things you can do today that will add up to make a big difference tomorrow. From your list of things to do to your daily diet. Bit by bit, slow but sure, if you follow any or all of these simple steps I’m sharing with you today you will be well on your way to living a simpler life.

How to make life easier

1 Unplug from social media

Whether you do this for one hour a day or at a specific time every day, unplugging from social media gives you a break from all the chaos of feeds, memes and blogs.

How often do you find yourself checking Pinterest for just one thing and the next thing you know 3 hours has passed? That’s 3 precious hours you could have been doing something else like relaxing!

We like to go for a walk and get some fresh air!

2 Clean out your pantry

This is probably a chore you’ve been putting off for a while because your pantry is a hot mess. Take an hour today and get to it.

Check the expiration date on some items that have been in there for longer than they should be. Are those bags of spices still good? Are there items you bought and have never used but may be of good use to a food bank?

Donating is good for the soul.

3 Go through your closet

While we’re talking about donating when was the last time you went through your dresser or closet to see which clothing items you are no longer using (or maybe they don’t fit anymore!)?

Take some time to go through your clothes and see what you can donate to a homeless shelter or even a women’s shelter.

4 Learn to say NO

People pleasers of the world listen up. You don’t always have to say yes when people ask for help.

It’s ok to say NO and give others a chance to say yes and help. When you say no to people you say yes to yourself and your responsibilities, your happiness, and your life.

Just say no!

5 Clear your mind

Meditation and journaling are great ways to have a mind dump.

So many of us are so caught up in work, family life, chores, etc and by the end of the day our minds are a jumbled mess. Take 15-30 minutes each day to empty your mind and chill out.

6 Have a ‘me’ day

Take a day just for yourself to do something that makes you happy. Whether it be hiking or swimming, volunteering at a dog shelter (petting puppies or walking dogs), having a day of pampering, or knitting a blanket.

Turn off your phone and all your devices for the day and spend the day with yourself.

7 Check your friends list

Are the people on this list really your friends or just ‘acquaintances’ you could probably do without? Do you have toxic people on this list? It might be time to get rid of them.

They are time vampires and can drain your energy and stress you out. Spend less time with or simply remove them from your life. Thank me later!

8 Reduce monthly plans and subscriptions

$5.99 here, $19.99 there. It all adds up and do you really use and need all the monthly things you’ve signed up for? Go through your bank statement/CC bill/PayPal transactions and double-check all those monthly plans.

Which ones can you live without and which ones are necessities?

Sometimes making life simpler comes in reducing our monthly expenses too!

9 Read a book instead of watching TV

When was the last time you curled up in your favorite chair and read a good book, whether it be a good ole paperback or on your Kindle?

I love reading e-books using Kindle Unlimited! If you do a lot of reading this will save your money and the clutter of books.

In this world of technology, so many of us have lost the art of reading and relaxing. The simpler things in life.

10 Make a list

Before you head out to run errands or do shopping, make a list (don’t forget to bring it with you!) of all the things you need to get done or buy and stick to it.

Too often when we shop without a list we either forget things or buy things we don’t need. Make life simpler by jotting these important things down!

11 Daily/Weekly planner

One of the best ways to stop stress and chaos in your daily life is to use a planner. Write out things you need to do, appointments, important dates, etc so you’re fairly well prepared for the week ahead.

It can be easy to forget an appointment or meeting and end up in a frazzled mess because your whole day is ruined. Plan your day/week out as best you can and make sure to leave room for the unexpected and, of course, for yourself.
